Paste a file size in any unit — see it in all the others, plus what it means in practice.
Uses decimal (SI) units as storage makers do: 1 KB = 1,000 bytes. Operating systems often show binary (1 KiB = 1,024 bytes) — hence the eternal confusion.
Storage is sold in decimal: 1 KB = 1,000 bytes, 1 MB = 1,000,000. RAM is measured in binary: 1 KiB = 1,024 bytes. A "1 TB" drive shows as ~931 GiB in your OS — the missing 69 GB is unit confusion, not missing storage. Worked example: 1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes ÷ 1,073,741,824 = 931.3 GiB.
The drive holds 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. Your OS divides by 1,073,741,824 (2^30) and calls the result "GB" — it is really gibibytes. 1e12 / 2^30 ≈ 931.
1,000 by the decimal definition storage makers use; 1,024 by the binary definition your OS uses.
GB. The ladder: B → KB → MB → GB → TB → PB, each step ×1,000.
