Add your courses with letter grades and credit hours. The GPA is weighted by credits and updates as you type. Standard US 4.0 scale, with or without +/− grades.
GPA weights every grade by its credit hours: GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits). Each letter maps to points on the standard US 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, …, D− = 0.7, F = 0). Worked example: A in a 3-credit course, B+ in 4 credits, A− in 3 credits, C in 2 credits → (4.0×3 + 3.3×4 + 3.7×3 + 2.0×2) ÷ (3+4+3+2) = 40.3 ÷ 12 = 3.36. On the plain 4.0 scale (no +/−), the same courses give 3.33.
No — GPA only uses courses with a letter grade and credit hours. Leave pass/fail, audit, and withdrawn courses out (or delete the row).
Weighting varies by school (often +0.5 or +1.0 per honors/AP course). This calculator reports the standard unweighted 4.0 GPA; check your school’s policy before adding weights.
The common US college scale shown above. A few schools omit A+ or D−, and some use 4.33 for A+ — if your school’s table differs, treat the result as an approximation.
Rounding and scale differences (some schools use no +/−, others add points for honors) account for most discrepancies. The method here is the standard credit-weighted mean.
