Salary to Hourly Calculator
Enter your pay and your working hours and the converter runs both ways: annual salary to hourly rate, or hourly rate to annual salary, plus weekly, biweekly, and monthly equivalents. Figures are gross pay, before taxes and deductions.
Gross pay only, before income tax, payroll tax, benefits, and deductions. Weeks per year below 52 models unpaid time off (e.g. 48 = four unpaid weeks).
How it works
The conversion runs through total working hours: hours per year = hours per week × weeks per year. A full-time year at 40 hours/week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours. Then hourly rate = annual salary ÷ hours per year, and in reverse annual salary = hourly rate × hours per year. The other pay periods follow from the annual figure: weekly = annual ÷ weeks per year, biweekly = annual ÷ 26 (there are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year), monthly = annual ÷ 12. Worked example: a $75,000 salary at 40 hours/week, 52 weeks/year → 2,080 hours, so hourly = 75,000 ÷ 2,080 = $36.06/hour; weekly = 75,000 ÷ 52 = $1,442.31; biweekly = 75,000 ÷ 26 = $2,884.62; monthly = 75,000 ÷ 12 = $6,250.00. In reverse, $36.06/hour × 2,080 hours = $75,004.80 — a few dollars above $75,000 because the displayed $36.06 is rounded up from $36.0577.
Frequently asked questions
Is 2,080 hours always right?
Only for a standard full-time year: 40 hours/week × 52 weeks. Part-time schedules, unpaid leave, or a 37.5-hour week change the divisor — enter your real hours and weeks above.
Why is biweekly pay not half of monthly pay?
Because there are 26 biweekly periods but only 12 months. Two months a year contain three biweekly paychecks; monthly pay (annual ÷ 12) smooths that out.
Does this include taxes?
No — these are gross figures, before federal and state income tax, Social Security, Medicare, and any benefits or retirement deductions. Take-home pay will be lower.
How do I compare a salary offer with an hourly offer?
Convert both to the same basis with the same hours and weeks. A $25/hour offer at 40 hours/week, 52 weeks/year is $52,000/year — but if the hourly job offers only 48 weeks, it is $48,000/year.
